Nick's Birthday/Father's day combo

It was a fairly simple event; not much we can do since it was a Sunday.

A few days earlier, Kaylor and I stuffed a football shaped pinata and hid it. This proved a little tough since the chocolate started melting in its packaging and so some weren't easily stuffed (downsides of not being able to sneak in the candy in the fridge without Nick finding it). But Kaylor was a great helper and didn't mind that we didn't even open any of the candies.

Then on Sunday I hung it up in the backyard while Nick did his hometeaching. (Couldn't do it any earlier since with 100+ degree weather it'd be chocolate slush by the time we smashed it.

Here's Kaylor and Nick trying to hit it with a plastic bat (my mistake of assuming it's strong enough to break it)

Our (already) broken pool table stick did the trick. Although Kaylor started to freak out from all the racket and Nick had to break the pinata by himself.

Nick grabbing the candy, while Kaylor went for the beads.

His cake was a mint chocolate ice cream cake from Baskin & Robbins (they send coupons for birthdays :D). I've botched the cakes from Nick's previous birthdays (Auntie KK raised the bar really high with her excellent pudding cake :D ), so this year I let the experts handle it.

Happy 30th Nick!

Daily Antics

  • 11:39 couldn't say this before since dad reads my tweets, but helped out mom fill up daddy's birthday pinata. (&didn't even try to eat the candy)
  • 11:40 did not understand the concept of hitting the pinata and eventually got scared from the sound of daddy trying to smash it.
  • 11:42 pinata had chocolate and mardi gras beads. Ignored the chocolate... went for the beads.
  • 11:42 wanted those beads since i saw them in the party isle and actually pulled them off the shelf and started wearing them around the store.

belly button

This is what he did today when I asked where his belly button was. LOL.

Day 1: glub glub

Kaylor started swimming lessons today through the city's aquatics program.

It was funny when he first caught sight of the pool, he got so excited he almost jumped in. Unfortunately for him, we had to put our towels away first, so he started to cry as I pulled him towards the benches.

For the most part, he was quite annoyed during the lesson. Mainly because he couldn't wander and socialize with the other kids. He was already quite comfortable in the water and didn't mind it when I tried to get him to float on his stomach. Since he's never floated on his back, the instructor suggested I sing "twinkle twinkle little star" to distract him while I put his head on my shoulder and had him float in this new position. And it worked. It distracted him so much that he got really comfortable, tilted his head to the side, and relaxed his arms. We all thought he was going to nap right then and there.

Silly child.

It should be interesting to see what other things we'll learn in the next 8 days.
