warm blooded

When the baby was first born, we thought that he easily gets cold (like me) since he cried whenever it got drafty, or when we were cleaning him up with baby wipes. But since moving here, we found out he's actually like his dad and runs warmer than typical. Even with the fan on, we find him in the morning sometimes quite sweaty (running marathons in his sleep? ;D). So it'd be interesting to see how he'd handle the 100° dry heat of Arizona.

We were actually there this weekend to figure out housing since we basically only have a month left for school. Nice and toasty 85°. It was so nice! The baby was in onesies the whole time and actually got used to wearing his hat.

Here's one of him at the airport today. Notice the hat, yes, Nick wanted him to look 'cool'.

Sucking on his thumb or Nick's? :)

He just looked so cute with the onesie on his head, we had to do it again. heh. although, looks like he has a big gut at this angle, lol.

Getting his slanted eyes back? maybe? Since every person who sees him comments on how HUGE his eyes are (oh, and they mistake him for a girl. blah.)

roomie's baby

We visited my old roommate (first college roommate ever) yesterday. It was great to see her and catch up things. She has a 1.5 year old daughter and is due for another baby in 4 months, so it was interesting to see how her toddler was possibly going to react when their new baby comes.

It turned out well - the babies loved each other. She'd coo and he'd coo right back. It was great to see their interaction...

the baby's not so uppity this week and has been quite 'attached' (aka it's constant carrying or nothing else). Maybe he'll feel better once Nick comes back...

Nick's taking off again

This time he's heading down to Arizona with Evan and Doug to enjoy Spring training (and watch a few Giants games).

:P

This is why he gets to do diaper duty before he leaves (which he's doing right now, and it's a juicy one too). :) Gotta love the daddy-son bonding at this age...

And the baby couldn't be happier.

professional photos

The baby and I went to visit the house of JD, one of our MBA buddies, tonight for dinner and what not. Melissa, his wife, is an amazing photographer and does really great portrait shots. She graciously shot a few of the baby today and has posted them on her blog. Check it out.

There's surely never a dull moment with the baby.

OK, so I know the baby is wiggly, but I guess I underestimated as to how much. We were preparing to go visit my friend's house in another city. Since the pc was only 3 feet away, I left him on his bed to quickly check for directions. In the few minutes, he managed to wiggle out of his diaper (completely - it was next to him when I checked him) and pee everywhere!

(which also makes me wonder how strong the tabs are really on the target brand diapers...probably not so much :P)

Orange cube

In other news, the baby seems to like toys with faces... sort of. At this stage, he still very much prefers the human face to inanimate objects.

attack of the toddlers

We went to the local Social Security office today to re-apply for the baby's number, since we still haven't gotten it. The moment we sat down, the baby was immediately surrounded by toddlers and started to get prodded and poked. yikes. The moms tried to pull them away, but one boy was persistent. He even tried to offer his bottle, and tried to force the nipple in the baby's mouth... Then a number of times, he tried to shake the car seat.

Ok, so this was a first for us. What do you do when other parents can't control their children? Unfortunately, we were stuck there. Thankfully, the baby was content during the whole thing. He didn't mind what was going on and was actually intrigued when the other children started playing with his hanging mobile. But I was definitely on edge during most of our wait, making sure that the baby doesn't get inadvertently pushed or what not. ugh...

Teething?

At only 3 months, he seems to be too young to start teething. But I saw a white protrusion from his upper gums earlier...

Inspired by a video game

We finally received the baby's birth certificate today. As we read over it to make sure everything was correct, I sort of reminisced on how we came upon his name.

We didn't find it in any baby book or anything. Nick already knew what name he wanted if the baby came out a boy... When he told me what it was, I thought it seemed cute, but I hesitated once I learned where he got it from.

Behold the superhuman athlete who inspired the baby's name (click to zoom):

Yup, he's a player in "Mutant League Football" on the Sega Genesis. Nick still plays this game on his PSP since it's part of EA Replay.

Well, at least the character is human - the other players are aliens, skeletons, robots, and trolls...

PS: What sealed the deal though was when Nick was in the bay area last summer. He said he saw an Asian family calling their little son with the same name...

With Nick leaving for Argentina next week, I wanted he and the baby to spend as much time together this week...

So here's Nick doing diaper duty and preparing the baby for the carseat.

2 month checkup

The baby had his 2 month checkup today (albeit late since we barely learned what pediatric services are offered at the campus health center).

Our hunch that he's gained weight was confirmed, moving from the petite 6lbs 1oz to 11 lbs 2oz. And he's now 22 inches long! He finally has outgrown newborn-sized sleepers, so we're going to have to dig up his "bigger" clothes from storage (woo, 0-3mos ha ha)...

Overall he's doing well. The doc was amused with him since the baby kept trying to coo at him. Although we were warned to never leave him unattended since he's gotten very wiggly (especially during the checkup). And since Nick and I have both been sick, he might get a cold soon. No coughing, but he has had a runny nose today. So the doc recommended vitamin drops.

6 more weeks till his next visit (and next set of shots, oh no). :)

jinx?

From 57° to 33°. What happened here?
IMG_0895.

The weather was still fairly decent when we left our house today to hang out at the mall. But the weather took a turn for the worse in the next few hours. By the time we left for home, the wind was blowing like crazy and it was quite chilly. The baby who was sleeping contently in his carseat, woke up with a start when the wind blew in his direction. Luckily the car was parked right next to the entrance, so we were able to quickly jump into the vehicle to leave.

seatbelt safety

We just got back from some friends' house. It was great to get out of the house, hang out with other folks in the program and just chill on a Friday night.

One of the good things though is that one of Nick's friends helped us out with making sure the carseat is really secure. He rode in our car one time and commented that the seat could be tighter and more efficiently placed. So he and Nick spent a few good minutes tonight securing the car seat base and making sure it's aligned. Then they gave us tips on when/how to adjust the straps on the seat based on the baby's size.

Good stuff. It definitely helps to have friends around who are experts at these things...
